Interview with Tamara Schandy in El Observador
The Uruguayan economy shows several positive signs that suggest that the pace of activity is slowly consolidating a reactivation, after the blow caused by the pandemic. In any case, the economist at the consulting firm EXANTE, Tamara Schandy, warns that there are reasons to take these advances with caution. On the other hand, he referred to the importance of properly managing the balance between the objectives of fiscal results, inflation and employment recovery. According to him, “there is a risk in moving too quickly towards an objective of a very rapid fall in inflation” in the coming months. “Moving towards an even greater reduction in a short period and having a very aggressive monetary policy risks hindering the recovery that the economy is having,” he warned. The situation of the labor market, salary negotiation, the investment climate and the competitiveness situation with the countries of the region are other points that Schandy referred to in an interview with El Observador.
