Rise of the dollar in Uruguay: What factors are behind it? What does this increase imply for the outlook for inflation and monetary policy?
As you know, the dollar in our country is showing a very marked upward trend. Specifically, so far this year it has accumulated an increase of 14%.
This is a rise of quite unusual magnitude, which raises several questions. To begin with, obviously, what are the causes of this behavior? Should we associate it exclusively with external factors or could the change of government be playing a role? What does this rise in the dollar mean for the inflation outlook? And how should the Central Bank's monetary policy respond, consequently?
